Against a rapidly changing research funding landscape, universities are facing difficult choices about where to focus their efforts. In the absence of large-scale funding support, such as GCRF, international development research can be challenging to maintain as an area of institutional focus. In this session, we will hear from four colleagues about how they are working to keep international development research on their institutions' strategic agendas and have time for roundtable discussion for everyone to share their own experience on this topic.

Dr Yolande Harley will introduce the EquiPD Toolkit, a practical set of resources designed to help research teams identify and address equity-related challenges during proposal development. Drawing on lessons from international research collaborations, she will explore how equity can be embedded from the outset to improve communication, clarify roles and expectations, and strengthen partnerships. The session will demonstrate how the toolkit can support research managers, administrators and academic teams in developing more equitable, resilient and effective collaborative proposals, ultimately contributing to stronger research outcomes and healthier research cultures.

December 11th from 10:30-11:30

In this informal session, network members will have the chance to share approaches for allocation of the recently announced ISPF ODA block award to UK universities.

November 20th from 13:00-14:00

In this session, Conor Snowden from the University of Edinburgh, will outline the final Horizon Europe pillar 2 work programme for 2026 & 2027, which looks to address global challenges. Considering these opportunities early, before they are formally published, will give everyone time to build consortia including LMIC partners.

October 15th from 14:00-15:00

In this session, Jason Hutton from the University of Birmingham will provide an overview of how the University of Birmingham has enhanced their institutional capability to bid for tenders and contract research as part of their efforts to diversify their international research portfolio.

September 17th from 14;00-15:00

Dr Zawadi Mageni Mboma from the Ifakara Health Institute – Tanzania, will share insights into the challenges and opportunities of growing research management capability at a research institute in Tanzania.
